Baseball and BI, like Milk and Cookies

I love baseball.  I love all sports, but there is something about the depth of the statistics in baseball that get me going.  Take a look at the following excellent visualization, it is simple, but really gives a lot of data in a very concise way.  If only I could get my customers to get into something like this.  I do not know about most of you, but many of my end users would just prefer a dump of the data and then they sift through it themselves.  It is maddening.

  1. Suggested improvement:
Have a mini-distribution under "Statistic Value" on the right because some of the distributions appear to have a lot of skew eg 1B because of Ichiro (and the 2000 Royals, who knew?).

I would then suggest having the white middle color be at the mode rather than the median to even out the colors somewhat.

  2. Who was on the Royals then?

That is always the problem with stats like this. What really is the purpose of seeing who had the most singles? What really matters is the affect they had on the outcome. Ichiro is one of the best "hitters" of all time, but what has he done to help the team win? In 2008 he had a wOBA of .339, the next guy ahead of him, Russel Martin.
